In-fiber linear polarizer

Chiral Photonics, Inc. (CPI), introduces a unique in-fiber polarizer based on its proprietary chiral technology. CPI’s all-glass In-Fiber Polarizer provides a high extinction ratio over a broad spectral range at a price well below other in-line polarizers.
The polarizer can be manufactured to meet your spectral and performance specifications, including central wavelength, bandwidth and extinction ratio requirements. Specifications for a polarizer with central wavelength at 1550 nm are shown, as an example, below.
Harsh environment requirements can also be accommodated, including chemical, temperature and radiation resistance. Highly stable operating performance above 200 °C has been demonstrated. A wide variety of input and output fibers as well as connectors are available to meet your needs.

Applications:

> Polarization measurement and control
> Coherent transmission
> Optical sensors
> Test and measurement instrumentation
> Navigation instrumentation
> R & D

Specifications:

Operating Temperature -50 to 50 °C
Storage Temperature -70 to 85 °C
Polarizer Length 42 ± 2 mm
Flexibly Jacketed Polarizer  (DxL) 0.62 ± 0.20 mm x 160 ± 5 mm

Chiral Long Period Gratings

Chiral Photonics, Inc. (CPI), has developed unique long period gratings based on its proprietary chiral technology. Chiral long period gratings (CLPGs) can be used to optically sense environmental factors, such as chemical composition, temperature, and pressure. Unlike conventional long period gratings, CLPGs are sensitive to circularly polarized light with the same handedness as the chiral fiber. Light that is oppositely polarized can be used for control purposes, to assure the system’s integrity, or to serve as a second sensing channel. Since chiral fiber gratings are not formed in photosensitive fibers, they can be fabricated from refractory or radiation resistive glasses. CLPG sensors can therefore be used to probe harsh environments with high levels of radiation, high temperature, or corrosive chemicals such as might exist in nuclear power plants or in bore holes in oil fields and in deep mines.
A wide variety of sensors as well as input and output fibers are available to meet your needs. Below is a spectrum showing the sensitivity of a CLPG to its environment. These fibers have demonstrated their advantages in fuel level sensing, pressure and temperature measurement. The wavelength of the dip can be tailored to suit the application.

Applications:

> Environmental sensing
> Strain / pressure sensing
> Temperature sensing
> Fuel level sensing
> R&D
